Thrifted Elegance

March 4, 2010

Quote of the day:

Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future.
Coco Chanel
This outfit, except the shoes and the earrings, cost me only €10!  I’ve been searching for a loose sheer blouse for ages and I became the owner of  this pure silk, retro print darling last week after parting with only €5!

And as you all know, harem pants are my latest obsession, and this pair of Oasis pants is my latest finding!

Pairing them for that sophisticated, elegant look was such an obvious decision.

Pants: thrifted, Blouse: thrifted, Shoes: Dune, Earrings: French Connection

What a steal! The blouse is beautiful and I really like the paper bag waist on the pants.

As a new reader of your blog I find it really interesting. What I like best are these quotes you choose as a theme of the post and how your outfit correspond to it. Also, the scenery of the photos is really great – so “country” and “old-fashioned” as the sceneries in the costume dramas and really in wonderful contrast with your “city” and “urban” outfits.

    Thank you Girls!

Natasa, I love your comment! I always thought my outfits are a bit out of place with the country background…I never thought about it as a contrast!

Some people looking at your pics and clothes think you spend a fortune! I am the one who can prove this is not the case… Yes, we sometimes extend a bit our lunch breaks to find sth nice in charity shops:) It is well worth it – your outfit looks amazing Alice.

Where did you get that amazing blouse? Really lovely! I’m too silly not to find any good thrift shop here 😦

You wear harem pants so well! And I love that quote from Coco Chanel…it doesn’t seem as well-known as her other ones but it’s very true. A lot of stylish people seem to experiment and mindlessly follow trends when they’re young–sometimes good, sometimes bad–but they grow into this sense of style, elegance, and charm when they get older.

Wow, the pattern on the blouse is so striking, and yet because of the sheerness it doesn’t overwhelm you. Great find!

Thanks a million for the great comments! I have to say the charity shops are not that great in Dublin either but I go there pretty often and I have been lucky so far..
