Back in Dublin II

February 4, 2010

A few days ago I posted the first part of  the Back to Dublin photo shoot and I was delighted to see how popular it was! Thank you for your lovely comments, my model, Dorota, was chuffed! She certainly has less inhibitions now about looking too tall in her River Island boots! Which was naturally a total nonsense in the first place.

I mentioned before that the location of the photo shoot was particularly important to me as it was the last apartment I inhabited before moving to the country. A loft of people find the old Georgian buildings depressing, with the ancient smelly carpets and furniture in the hallways, the badly isolated windows, not too secure front gardens, and I haven’t even mentioned the notorious landlords who bought these gorgeous buildings, divided them into tiny boxes, and then left the maintenance to God’s good will!

But despite all the nuisance I also find them very charming. The iron wrought gates, the peeling wallpaper, and of course the Irish landmark – the Georgian doors! The houses look so similar to each that people paint their doors in all kind of colours, sometimes pretty hideous ones (imagine baby pink against the red brick!), just to stand out. It is also perfect when you are giving directions – “my house is with the yellow door!”

Ooh the tassles on that scarf are to die for. Scrumptuously chic.

I love your photography work btw Alice – I love how your photos are professional with a laid-back quality, it’s nice and refreshing from all this “omg look at my arty photography which is supposedly ironic and you’re not meant to get it” stuff!
