Country Chick

 Quote of the day:

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

Calvin Coolidge

As much as I believe this quote to be true, I also think that determination and persistence are only fruitful if we allow ourselves a break, slow down, put our goals on hold, and enjoy the moment. If we don’t make sure we switch off, our goals can easily become obsessions or burdens, leaving us burnt out and bitter.

So whenever you feel like you are losing control, things become too much to handle, or you just need to clear you head and perhaps reassess your priorities, just forget everything and do nothing. I am talking from experience, believe me. Last year I set so many targets that while struggling to cope with them I began to wonder if I am missing the most important things in my life…

So what if I am behind the deadline in fashion school, still haven’t finished that hat I would like to wear next week, the house is in shambles ( a clean house is a sign of wasted life, by the way), and there is this new book on photography I wanted to start on?…It doesn’t matter! It is a beautiful Sunday, the snow is gone, the sun is shining and all this can wait!

I am off on a country trip with my boyfriend, a long drive enjoying the beautiful scenery, a delicious lunch in small pub (lamb roast with veggies and mashed potatoes), followed by a pint of my favourite beer, looking at old cottages with my boyfriend and imagining our future house…A perfect day!

I am not sure what got into me that made me look like I am bored out of my head but I am wearing: Jumper (Lotus)- thrifted, Shorts (Karen Millen) - Thrifted, Boots - Dunnes, Necklace - gift

That is me determined and persistent and I am wearing: Jumper (Lotus)- thrifted, Shorts (Karen Millen) - Thrifted, Boots - Dunnes, Necklace - gift

This jumper is the most comfortable thing ever - it is soft, warm and orange!

I love the slightly slouchy feel these trousers have on me - they are not too big, it is just the way they are

What a fantastic way to spend a lovely Sunday. I absolutely agree that it’s so important not to forget to actually live your life and do something fun once in a while!

Also, this “a clean house is a sign of wasted life, by the way” is virtually my mantra!

Great article and wise qoutes! I don’t want to feel guilty anymore whenever I take it easy… You are right – it is crucial.
