Accessories With a Story

December 8, 2009

Repurposed. Recycled. Loved. Again.

This is the concept behind Anka’s line of accessories called Fabula.  Ethical fashion is so popular these days that you might ask the question: “Why is Fabula different?”

Well, it certainly caught my attention and the main reason is the way Anka approaches familiar objects and transforms them into chick and unusual accessories.

For example, what do you do with a tired table mat that doesn’t match the colours of your kitchen anymore? You will probably throw it away…Or you can give it to Anka and she will make a funky clutch out of it!

This FABULA clutch is made from an upcycled table mat. For the lining Anka used an unwanted lovely skirt. It is embellished with metal studs to give this elegant bag a tougher twist! Available on Etsy. $57 USD

Another signature feature of Fabula is recycling men’s clothes. Who would have thought that the tip of a tie or the cuff of a shirt combined with some feminine lace can make a beautiful accessory with a cutting edge!

I am browsing Anka’s Etsy shop and I am so inspired. Some of her pieces would make beautiful Christmas presents!

Anka has the ability to strip an old and boring object of its initial meaning and give it a new purpose. It reminds me of Andersen’s fairy tale about a sad broken tea cup that becomes a flower pot and helps to grow a beautiful flower gaining a new meaning in life.

Most of us are in the cycle of throwing things away, replacing them with new ones, and repeating the whole process over and over again. Maybe we should stop and start listening to old objects. They all have a story to tell.

Take your time and listen to some of them on Fabula blog or if you are from Dublin you can visist Anka’s stall in The Loft Market in Powerscourt Centre.

It is my favourite as well Retro Chick! You can wear it with a girlie outfit but I think it would compliment some killer heels and skinny jeans just as well!
