Fashion from Russia…

September 9, 2009

What is the first thing that pops into your head when you hear the word Russia?

It is probably NOT Fashion.

Too bad. You don’t know what you are missing.

Moody. Crazy. Irrational. Gloomy. Decorous. Vulgar. Sophisticated. Obnoxious. Contraversial.

This is what comes to my head when I think about Russia.

I picked a few links to give you an idea. Or maybe it will  confuse you even more…

Denis Simachev Russian fashion designer fuses fashion with social/cultural/political critisism. In his provokative designs Simachev questions traditional values and ridicules old cliches. His site is definitely worth checking out and not only for fashion lovers.

Alena Ahmadulina  – Russian fashion designer. To me, her clothes communicate something about the wild side of feminine nature, about being in zink with your natural instinct.

Dior in Moscow The images are taken in 1959 in Moscow featuring Dior’s New Look designs…shall I say more?

Funnily enough you are right! I’ve always found this building amazing with all its colours and swirly surfaces! I am actually using it as an inspiration in my fashion notebook!

I spent 2 months in Moscow and 2 weeks in St Petersburg. I have to say I preferred Petersburg is it was less intimidating and impersonal but there was an athoritative beauty about Moscow…
